Touchstone Energy Camp

This camp experience was designed to help 6th grade students learn about electrification, electric safety, and teach them about the cooperative business principle.

Students will be able to enhance their learning by participating in a fun and powerful program that includes a variety of activities designed to deliver the cooperative message with a powerful program.

Scholarship Golf Outing

For over 14 years LaGrange County REMC has hosted an annual scholarship golf outing. The event has rotated between Heron Creek Golf Club and Cedar Lake Golf Course. All proceeds from this event are used to provide scholarships to college-bound graduating seniors. Their parents or guardians must be members of LaGrange County REMC. Applications are available in early spring and may be picked up at high school guidance departments, at our office at 1995 E US 20 LaGrange, IN. or printed from this web site.

LaGrange County REMC Awards 2007 Scholarships

LaGrange County REMC is proud to announce the recipients of the 2007 LaGrange County REMC Scholarships.  This year the cooperative is giving three, $600. scholarships to worthy students of our community.  The recipients must live in LaGrange County REMC territory to qualify.

Haley Hodgen, Prairie Heights is planning to attend Indiana University in the fall.  She is the daughter of Bill and Sandy Hodgen of Wolcottville.  Her area of interest is Physical Therapy.  She plans to specialize and work mainly with athletes.
     
Hodgen is the Salutatorian of the 2007 graduating class of Prairie Heights High School.  She has been involved in many extra-curricular activities including varsity volleyball, National Honor Society, Peer Mediator, Indiana Future Educator’s In Action.  She has also volunteered as a nursery worker and helped with Bible School at her church.


Brian Sherck, Lakeland is planning to attend Anderson University fall of 2007.  He is the son of Steven and Laurinda Sherck of LaGrange.  He plans to pursue a degree in the area of history.  His goal is to become a high school history teacher and basketball coach.

Sherck participates in many clubs and organizations at Lakeland including National Honor Society, Student Council, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He participated in basketball at the varsity level.  He is an active member of his church, served on the Shed board, and has been named to Who’s Who among American High School Students.


Aaron Purlee, home schooled thru Michiana Christian Educators, is planning to attend Glen Oaks Community College. He is the son of Greg and Christine Purlee of Howe.  He will be pursuing a degree in journalism.  He intends to write for a newspaper or periodical magazine.

Purlee has been involved in basketball and drama, and participated in plays with the LaGrange and Sturgis Civic Players.  He is also active in his church youth group and served as a youth leader for Bible School and a served on a Honduras mission trip. 

LaGrange County REMC hosts a scholarship golf outing every year.  The proceeds are used to make these scholarships possible.  This year the scholarship golf outing will be held on Saturday, June 23rd at Heron Creek Golf Club.  For more information or to sign up to golf call Norma Miller or Sherryl Rhinesmith at LaGrange County REMC, (260)463-7165. 


Youth Tour

Youth Tour is a one week trip to our nation’s capital that happens once a year. The trip allows youth to join with other youth from all over the state to see our nation’s government and history firsthand, as well as learn more about electric cooperatives. While on the Youth Tour, participants will tour Gettysburg, Mount Vernon, Arlington National Cemetery, the Capitol Building, the Presidential monuments and other places of interest. Safety Programs

2008 Rebate Programs

Air Source Heat Pump and Geothermal Heat Pump Program (Limit 1 per home)

LaGrange County REMC will provide a rebate of $500 as an incentive to install an air source or geothermal heat pump to LaGrange County REMC members. 

In order to receive the rebate, the following qualifications and minimum standards must be met. Unit must be installed in a permanent residence or business within LaGrange County REMC’s territory and claim must be made within 60 days of installation or purchase.

Member must either:

  • a. Purchase or build a new home with geothermal or air source heat pump installed.(Must be 1st homeowner such as spec house.)
  • b. Replace a fossil fuel unit (oil, gas, wood), with a geothermal or air source heat pump
  • c. Replace an air-conditioning unit with an air source heat pump.

Minimum Standards

  • Geothermal unit must be 3 Ton or greater.
  • The geothermal unit must be ARI certified.
  • Air source heat pump must be 2 ½ Ton or greater.
  • Heat pump performance must equal 13 SEER or better.
  • Heat loss/gain calculations must be performed.
  • Thermostat must be set at 25 degrees or lower for back up heat to kick on.
  • Dealer/installer must be factory trained and certified.
  • The system must be installed in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • We will have the option to inspect the new system before rebate is applied.

The credit will be applied to the member’s electric bill following the receipt of the completed claim form including all information requested and requirements met.


2008 Water Heater Program

Fifty gallon water heaters are available for purchase and pickup at our location for only $225. + tax (before rebate).  Other sizes available—call for pricing.

Water heater may be purchased from LaGrange County REMC or another vendor

To qualify, the water heater must be installed on LaGrange County REMC’s lines under the following conditions:

One of the following:

  • New construction with service from LaGrange County REMC
  • Replace a gas water heater with a new energy efficient electric water heater
  • Replace an old leaking, or non-serviceable electric water heater with a new efficient electric water heater

Including:

  • The water heater must have a minimum of .90 efficiency rating
  • Must be a member of LaGrange County REMC
  • Member must sign the Water Heater Program agreement
  • Must consent to the installation of a load management switch and call the REMC office, 260-463-7165 within 30 days of purchase to schedule a time to install switch. 

In addition to the $150 rebate or credit, receive $2 credit on your bill each subsequent month for as long as you have the water heater with the load control switch.

Load Management switch not applicable in geothermal applications, therefore, no credit or rebate will be given.
